Perimeter Roofing

When homeowners choose Perimeter Roofing & Exteriors, they’re not just hiring another roofing contractor in Lynchburg, Virginia. They’re partnering with a family-owned company built on faith, perseverance, trust, and a commitment to serving others.

In this special episode of the Inside the Perimeter: Roof & Renovate Podcast, owners Philip and Patricia step away from discussing roofing, remodeling, storm damage, and home renovations to share something even more personal—the story of how they met, fell in love, overcame obstacles, and ultimately built the life and business they share today.

If you’ve ever wondered who’s behind Perimeter Roofing & Exteriors, this episode offers a glimpse into the values that guide every roofing project, exterior renovation, and customer relationship.

From Liberty University to Lifelong Partners

Philip and Patricia first met while attending Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Ironically, romance wasn’t part of the original plan.

The two became friends through mutual acquaintances and spent months simply enjoying each other’s company while both pursued relationships with other people. Their friendship grew naturally, built on honesty, trust, and conversations that went far beyond typical college life.

One conversation at a local ice cream shop would quietly change everything.

As Philip opened up about a difficult season in his life, Patricia offered simple but powerful wisdom:

“God is not the God of confusion.”

That moment revealed a depth of character Philip hadn’t fully seen before—and planted the first seed that their friendship could become something much more.

Sometimes the Best Relationships Start as Friendships

For months, Philip and Patricia remained close friends.

Friends and roommates constantly suggested they should date, but neither believed that was where the relationship was headed.

It wasn’t until Patricia experienced a difficult breakup that everything unexpectedly shifted.

Philip offered to cheer her up with a trip to Big Lick, and somewhere during the drive, he suddenly realized he wasn’t looking at a friend anymore.

He was looking at the woman he wanted to spend his life with.

As Philip jokes throughout the episode, it completely caught him off guard.

Not Every Love Story Is Smooth

Like many great stories, theirs included plenty of twists.

There were misunderstandings.

Awkward conversations.

Three weeks of not speaking.

A surprise confession that wasn’t immediately returned.

Even a dramatic confrontation outside Liberty University’s campus church.

Rather than allowing those moments to define their relationship, they eventually worked through them with honesty and patience.

Looking back now, both Philip and Patricia laugh about those moments—but they also recognize how each challenge helped strengthen the foundation they would eventually build together.

A Proposal During Y2K

One of the most memorable moments in the episode is Philip’s proposal.

After briefly breaking up, Philip realized he had made the biggest mistake of his life.

He bought an engagement ring while they weren’t even dating.

When Patricia returned from visiting family over Christmas break, Philip arranged a New Year’s Eve outing with friends during the famous Y2K celebration.

Standing beneath the Roanoke Star while fireworks filled the sky, Philip dropped to one knee.

Patricia’s first response?

She thought he was joking.

Fortunately, after a few very long minutes (at least from Philip’s perspective), she said yes.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Marriage Requires Growth

Now celebrating more than 26 years of marriage, Philip and Patricia openly acknowledge that lasting relationships aren’t built by accident.

They’re built intentionally.

Before getting married, the couple completed extensive premarital counseling through Liberty University—a process that challenged both of them to grow individually before beginning life together.

One lesson continues to shape their marriage today:

It’s not about proving who’s right.

It’s about understanding one another.

That shift in perspective transformed how they communicate—not only as husband and wife, but also as business partners.

Building Perimeter Roofing & Exteriors Together
